The famous TAJ MAHAL is an ivory-white marble mausoleum found in the City of Agra in the state of Uttar Pradesh (capital is Lucknow), Northern India.
It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Sha-Jahan (reigned 1628-1658) to house the tomb of his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal. It was built on 1632-1653 under architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.

In 1983, The TAJ MAHAL was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the cultural type, with India as the State Party in the region of Asia-Pacific.
Further- in 2007, it became a winner in the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Carved out completely in red sandstone, the fort comprises of many buildings which shows and proves the assimilation of different cultures which was hallmark of the Mughals. It was mostly halted by western ambassadors, travelers and the dignitaries who were part in the making of history in India. 

Akbar's Tomb Another of famous places to visit near Taj Mahal city is, Akbar's Tomb lies at Sikandra, which is about 4 km from Agra city. The Akbar’s tomb carries the distinguishing flavor of the well-ventilated tiered double storeyed pavilions of the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. Akbar's Tomb is a great example of blend of different architectural styles and is somewhat different from earlier Mughal buildings. 


Fatehpur Sikri Also located near Agra, predominantly built in red sandstone, this historical town was constructed by Mughal emperor Akbar in 1570 as a capital city of Mughals but shortage of water supply was unable to sustain the growing population therefore, he abandon the city. Fatehpur Sikri is the perfect fusion of Hindu and Islamic architecture with its lavish decoration, derived from the Persian & Hindu elements and is a must see attractions near Taj Mahal as the words alone cannot describe its beauty. 


Itmad-ud-Daulah Tomb The tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah is small in size as compare to other Mughal buildings is often known as ''Baby Tāj' and sometimes the "jewel Box". The tomb was commissioned by Nur Jehan in memory of her father Ghiyasuddin Beg in between 1622 and 1628 A.D. Itmad-ud-Daulah Tomb can well be compared to Taj Mahal owing to its exquisite carvings and pietra dura. 


Vrindavan Located in close proximity to Agra, Vrindavan is a sacred destination of the Hindus and honored for of its association numerous ghats and also with the life of Lord Krishna. The town boosts hundreds of temples dedicated to the worship of Radha and Krishna.
